The Alentejo has a long Atlantic coast with some outstanding, untouched beaches. But, the cool, clean water doesn't stop there. New river beaches in the Alentejo are found throughout the region, often with excellent water quality, infrastructures and access.
Most of the main river beaches offer changing rooms, bathrooms, cafes and lifeguards — and many have been awarded the Blue Flag or Golden Beach recognition.
A large part of the river beaches in Alentejo exist because of recently built reservoirs and dams, but many are set in the middle of the plains and cork forests, offering a unique escape.
