Civilized Glamping in the Wild Alentejo

Glamping is the meeting of "glamorous" and "camping.” It is a new form of camping with luxe amenities and resort-style that goes way beyond the old camp fire and s’mores  Glamping is where the beauty of nature meets modern luxury, whether it's cabins or high-end tents. It's a way to experience the wild nature and is completely unique to places such as the Alentejo—without having to rough it.

In Portugal’s Alentejo, from the Atlantic coast to the interior, wonderful new places are opening to help you enjoy the natural charm and tranquility of the area without giving up the comfort you would find in a hotel. In the cork forest, meet the new combination of outdoor luxury — with a special  fully featured private space, without worry of heat, cold or even bugs.

Between the plain and the sea, from simplicity to luxury, there are options to breathe fresh air and feel the essence of cork country with its amazing light, big sky and star filled nights. These are some of the best new glamping grounds in the  Alentejo.

Azenhas da Seda - after a day full of activities, relax and fall asleep to the sound of waterfalls. Ancient water mills, rapids, and cascades make Azenhas da Seda  a magical place that surprises all who visit. Set in the most beautiful corners of the Ribeira da Seda, all glamping tents are equipped with everything you need for a comfortable night under the stars. Set near Mora in the Northern Alentejo.



Just outside of Zambujeira do Mar, the beaches of the Costa Alentejana, Quintal Yurts has tents equipped with wide beds. There is also a private bathroom with an outdoor shower.

Breakfast is included and this is an accommodation where pets are allowed - with prior booking. A fully equipped kitchen is offered, and a barbecue as well.

At Herdade da Ribeira de Borba in Vila Viçosa, cool domes mesh into a rural environment. Equipped with all the comforts and equipment, including air conditioning, TV, Wi-Fi and private bathrooms. From the cushy bed, look up at the stars of an Alentejo sky. All set on a farm with sustainable agriculture, complete with orchards and hiking trails.

The Reserva Alecrim, near Santiago do Cacém, offers domes as well, all equipped with microwave, coffee makers, and kitchens. With a capacity of up to two adults and two children, the domes are installed on platforms with  a view of the Alentejo plains. There are also safari tents, which is a good thing as the Badoca Safari Park is just 2 miles away. The ocean is quite nearby too.

Gavião Nature Village is et near the Alamal river beach in the Northern Alentejo, Gavião Nature Village offers, in addition to a free camping area, 10 ecological Cork Shelters covered in cork, using the region's endogenous resources, and 13 Glamping Tents equipped and decorated as if in a hotel room. All accommodations are furnished with ecological and sustainable furniture and have cork-coated sanitary facilities.




Figueirinha Ecoturismo Near Vila Nova de Milfontes, and miles of open beaches. The word here is sustainability, with solar power, water from wells for the swimming pool and even an organic garden. The tents open onto the vast plains and are bathed in, moonlight and stars. Several tents have  private bathrooms, panoramic views and terraces.

Bubulcus & Acorns. A glamping spot near Arraiolos, set in a cork forest. Here 100% of the power is generated by solar-and rainwater is stored in winter. Pick a tent or a camper. The tents can accommodate up to four people and are equipped with beds, sleeping bags, sheets, gas stove and a kitchen.

The camper has space for two adults and is equipped with a fridge, stove, sink with running water and kitchen supplies. From the campground you can see the walls of Estremoz, Évora Monte and Arraiolos, and there are lots of wineries to explore nearby.

Glamping Skies - located in Veiros, not far from Estremoz and features luxe domes, an outdoor swimming pool, Wi-Fi and miles of forest.

The sites offer a patio, air conditioning, a TV and a private bathroom with a shower and bathrobes. A breakfast buffet is served daily at the luxury campsite.

Glamping units are adults only, and  feature a terrace and a garden.

The property is 14 km from Estremoz, and less than 90 minutes from Lisbon, and in the castle town of Veiros.
